‘This Is Us’ renewed for season 2 (and season 3!) by NBC

This Is Us -How about this for some great news to lift your spirits today? While it was assumed by us and so many others that NBC would renew “This Is Us” for a second season at some point before May, what we did not expect was to see a third-season renewal come so soon as today. The network confirmed the order this morning at the TCA Winter Press Tour, with NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke saying the following:

“We all got our wish that this is a hit show. This Is Us is as good as anything we’ve ever had, we’re thrilled to renew it for two seasons and there’s no doubt it will have a long life on NBC. On behalf of everyone at NBC, we’re grateful for the artistry of the cast, crew, and producers assembled by our gifted creator, Dan Fogelman. In a world where there are literally hundreds of television dramas, we’re proud to have one of the very best that is also one of the highest-rated.”

There is no denying that “This Is Us” is nothing short of a smash hit. It’s averaging at present around a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is the strongest rating for any new series this year. Not only that, but it’s also one of the top drama series period. This is a show that got off to a great start courtesy of the NBC upfronts last year, and the momentum from a hugely popular Facebook trailer carried over to the show itself. It’s still setting live+3 records, and it has multiple Golden Globe nominations. More than likely, it’ll be in contention for some Emmys as well.

One other thing that we’re pleased to report on here is that NBC is not running the show into the ground, and giving it more than 18 episodes in any season. This seems to be the optimal length for it, and we also appreciate that they’re not sticking some huge hiatus in the middle of it either. Give us a clean run through February every season, and we’re fine with a long hiatus provided that we know the show is coming back.
