‘This Is Us’ episode 11: Chrissy Metz warns of tear-jerking episode

This Is Us -Tuesday night’s new episode of “This Is Us” is just about here, and as a result of that, something long-cherished will be coming along with it: Answers! We are finally going to figure out precisely what happened to Toby, and no matter the result, it could end up being emotional.

Of course, you’re not going to be able to get any person on this show handing down a definite answer as to what’s coming in this episode in advance, though Chrissy Metz did make it clear to TV Guide that you should “have [your] tissues ready” for what is coming next. We’ve already heard that the fate of Chris Sullivan’s character, who suffered what appeared to be a heart attack at the end of the Christas episode, will be revealed before the first commercial break.

In the aftermath of whatever happens, Metz makes it clear that this event will send huge reverberations across Kate’s life:

“Kate has a lot of decisions to make and when things hang in the balance. You don’t know what’s happening to a loved one or someone in your life, someone that obviously Kate is absolutely in love with [and] it’s very scary. It causes you to really think about how life is going to be impacted if something should go wrong or right. How does this affect her and her decisions — whether she continues with the gastric bypass or she decides maybe it’s not a good idea. There’s so many questions.”

Metz also suggested that it is possible that something happening to Toby could impact her character’s own weight-loss journey; remember, food is often a coping mechanism, and that is something that she easily could look towards if something happens to him. Yet, at the same time maybe she comes out of it feeling more motivated than ever to shed weight, given the sole fact that Toby’s heart attack was likely a result of his own eating habits.

In addition to a meaty story for Kate, expect to see a lot of Jack and Rebecca flashbacks before they welcomed children in their lives. Also, be prepared for a slightly-longer wait. Thanks mostly to a Presidential address, NBC confirmed recently that this is an episode that will air a little bit later at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. (It will be on at 9:00 on the West Coast.)
