New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2017: Mariah Carey faces lip sync allegations over botched performance

Rockin Eve -

Well, tonight’s Mariah Carey performance on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve was not exactly as expected, was it?

The singer was on the show tonight to perform a set of her biggest hits, but one of them went terribly awry as the backing track completely fell apart, and it started to look as though she didn’t know the lyrics to one of her own songs. She lamented in the middle of the performance not having any sort of sound-check prior to the start of the performance, and for a good two or three minutes, this was incredibly awkward.

So with this, of course the lip-sync allegations began as it was clear that there was a heavy backing track over some of the vocals on the other songs. We do think that she may have been singing at times during “We Belong Together” and at other places, but it was hard to distinguish it from everything else that she had going on.

There were of course a variety of theories and speculation about what was going on with Mariah on social media, but ultimately we don’t think it was that complicated. Ultimately, it feels like she expected something very specific with her track on the song, and when she didn’t get it, she was lost in the performance so she just let some of the dancers take it away while she claimed that she “was trying to be a good sport” about it. Unfortunately for her, this will probably be what she’s known for in the context of this show. She’s certainly got enough other career highlights that maybe this will fall off the radar for her at some point in the future … or at least this is what she probably hopes, since we cannot imagine that she EVER wants to remember this.
