‘Vikings’ season 4, episode 16 preview: What’s next after Ragnar’s undoing

Vikings -

You know the whole phrase “the show must go on”? Well, that is probably the most applicable way to describe where we are right now with “Vikings,” coupled with where we are going as we start to take some of the next steps and move forward with the series.

Next week, the show is going to attempt to do that with an episode entitled “Crossing,” one that will at the very least attempt to put into perspective what transpired with Ragnar and start to look towards the future. That is no easy task, and we also have to assume that it was no easy task for History to try and promote this particular episode in advance. How much was there really for them to say without giving anything major away? In that sense, we’re lucky to even have anything to report on when it comes to official details.

Synopsis (via TV Guide) – “Bjorn’s fleet launches a surprise attack, while Lagertha’s quest for power continues in Kattegat.”

Promo – Let’s just say that the revenge tour begins. If you thought that the next episode would be spent with a lot of mourning and depression, odds are that you haven’t paid too close attention to the show’s tone. It’s gruesome, brutal, and it doesn’t allow for a lot of breathing room. Ragnar’s death may be painful, but it is going to cause a domino effect that is rather far-reaching.

For those who have not heard yet, it is clear that History does have rather extensive plans moving forward when it comes to “Vikings” even without their leading man. Remember for a minute here that the show was renewed for a fifth season some time ago, and that batch of episodes will hand even more responsibility over to characters old and new. Beyond that, it feels wrong to say a whole lot more given that it’s still possible other characters could die before the end of the season. (If they do go, let’s just hope that they don’t end up having the same fate — the whole pit-of-snakes thing is pretty gruesome.)
