‘The Voice’ finale: Josh Gallagher performs ‘Pick Any Small Town’ original song; see music video
All of the final four artists on “The Voice” tonight are going to be doing original songs a.k.a. winner’s singles, and for Josh Gallagher, this could mean a chance to get back to some of his country roots.
While there may not be too much known about the song at the moment, we do have one important piece of information right now in the game: “Pick Any Small Town.” This is a song that is going to be potentially many different themes that are familiar to country music, whether it be devotion, pride in where you come from, and telling a story through the lyrics. He’s coming into the finale as an underdog who wasn’t expected by some to make it this far, so this is a song that may need to really blow the roof off the fandom for him to end up becoming the champion for the season.
One thing that is notable about the song is that he is not only listed as one of the writers on it alongside Jeremy DeWayne Busey (per Mjsbigblog), but so is another contestant from this season in Nolan Neal.
The performance – Prior to the performance, Josh spoke a little bit about bonding with Nolan, and how the two went back to Nashville during the process of doing the show to finish off the show with Busey’s help. He described as it perfect to him and his story, and you could hear a lot of that in the lyrics. We won’t say that this is necessarily a completely revolutionary song for country music, but at the same time it is heartfelt and quintessential to the genre. If you love modern country, odds are you’ll relate to this and enjoy it very much.
Music video – You can tell that this was put together pretty quickly, but with the small-town sightings in here and the homespun vibe, it should serve as a nice companion to the track. We’ll see how it ultimately fares on iTunes.
