‘Saturday Night Live’ bringing aboard John Cena, Casey Affleck to host final episodes of 2016

SNL -The latest batch of “Saturday Night Live” hosts are officially out into the universe, and based on who they’re bringing in, the show should have a very interesting run as they move closer to the holiday season.

Today, NBC confirmed that the first new host coming aboard is wrestler / actor John Cena on 2016. This feels almost like an attempt from the show to capitalize on the success that they had with Dwayne Johnson, who hosted one of the funniest shows in recent memory back in 2015. (His sketch with Bobby Moynihan was in particular glorious, where the two played wrestlers who had a contentious relationship while in the process of cutting some new promos.

For this show, the musical guest will be Maren Morris.

Meanwhile, Casey Affleck, right in the middle of an awards-season run, will be hosting the upcoming December 17 episode with returning musical guest Chance the Rapper. This is Affleck’s first time hosting the show … or at least this Affleck. Ben Affleck hosted the show on a number of occasions, and a cameo from him here would make the holiday season bright. (Fun fact: Affleck played the brother of Bill Hader’s Stefon during the character’s very-first appearance on the show, which actually was not during “Weekend Update.” The character evolved after that to become a little more of a fixture during that segment during his time around the show.)

With these three shows in mind, it will bring the number of episodes so far this season to ten, which may seem like a lot for the fall portion of the season. However, it is only one more than season 41 had before Christmas; the main difference here is that season 42 started later, but went all out in capitalizing on the Presidential Election.
