‘Supernatural’ season 12 video: Misha Collins on Castiel’s ‘fighting spirit’

CastielThe premiere of “Supernatural” season 12 is coming up Thursday night, and in preparation for that, we’ve got a video sneak peek below featuring someone who will be at the forefront of quite a bit of the story: Misha Collins’ Castiel.

Collins explains in this CW-provided clip how in the early days of this season, we’re going to see his character’s “fighting spirit” perhaps more than ever, which much of that probably stemming from his feelings regarding the whole Lucifer situation. He feels like it is something that he could have handled better at the end of last season, so trying to attune for that in his mind will be near the top of the priority list. Personally, we’re excited for the meeting of the minds when Cas figures out that Lucifer is going to be in the body of a rock star of all people, especially one like Vince Vicente (Rick Springfield).

Meanwhile, one other element of this story that should be interesting is the relationship between Castiel and Mary Winchester — which seems to start off on a particularly hilarious note when she questions how in the world he is even an angel given some of his recent behavior patterns. The two will bond in part because of their outsider status; both of them were in Heaven before coming down to earth, and therefore had an adjustment period getting to figure out how the world works. In general, though, odds are that Mary figures it out faster given that she was only up there for a few decades; Castiel, meanwhile, was up there for almost the entire common-era timeline.

One other thing that excites us down the line this season is the idea of Cas and Crowley (Mark Sheppard) working together. It may not happen often, but they have a common enemy at the moment and their interests are aligning. Enjoy it while you can!
