‘This Is Us’ episode 3 preview: What comes after big twist?

Through two weeks, NBC has shown through “This Is Us” that they have a real knack for delivering huge twists. First, they gave us an episode where we learned that Rebecca and Jack were actually parents to many of the other characters we met in the pilot, and we’re jumping between two different time periods. On Tuesday night’s new episode, we learned that Rebecca actually ends up in the future with Miguel. What happened here is tough to say, but we do admit to being rather thrilled that Jon Huertas is back on television so soon after “Castle.”

Next week’s new episode is entitled “Kyle,” and per the synopsis below there will be a wide array of different character stories that play out:

“Rebecca (Mandy Moore) makes a surprise visit to Randall’s (Sterling K. Brown) home where she encounters his biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones). Kevin (Justin Hartley) anxiously decides to take the plunge and move to New York to pursue a Broadway job, with the expectation that his sister, Kate (Chrissy Metz), will move with him. Toby (Chris Sullivan) is determined to get Kate out of Kevin’s shadow and prepares a special day where she is in the limelight. Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca take home their babies from the hospital and adjust to the new life of parenthood, while coping with the loss of their other child. Rebecca struggles to connect with their adopted child and searches for answers.”

Based on everything we’re seeing in that and the promo below, it seems as though we are continuing to play around with time. Executive producer Dan Fogelman has a specific plan for the first 18 episodes of the show (the series recently was picked up for a full season), and that’s something that could include a variety of pictures of these characters’ lives.
