‘Saturday Night Live’ names Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider co-headwriters

SNL -Apparently, “Saturday Night Live” is making changes to more than just the cast for the upcoming 42nd season on the air.

According to a report coming in right now via Splitsider, Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider have been promoted to co-headwriters for the upcoming season. The two are behind some popular sketches on the show, including the pre-tape song “(Do It On My) Twin Bed,” and clearly this gives us a chance to see a different voice at the top.

As for how this impacts Rob Klein and Bryan Tucker, who were the headwrtiers for this past season of the show, that remains to be seen.

One of the more interesting things about this shake-up is that while “SNL” got its fair share of criticism for its writing in season 41, it almost always does. As a matter of fact, we probably would struggle to saw that this past season was worse writing-wise than the ones that came before it. If there is one criticism we’d have for it overall, it is a lack of super-memorable new characters or sketches, but that is something that falls on almost every person and not just those at the top.

We imagine that some more announcements are to come with the NBC series, given that they will probably need to hire some replacements for Taran Killam, Jon Rudnitsky, and Jay Pharoah after their exits. We do think the cast has a tendency to be a little too large these days, so even if you hired just two new names we’d be happy.
