‘Saturday Night Live’s’ Leslie Jones officially heading to Rio for Olympics

Rio -

It appears that the wishes of many “Saturday Night Live” and Leslie Jones fans are coming true.

Over the weekend, we wrote about the producers for NBC’s Olympics coverage making an offer to the comedienne to come down to Rio in order to help cover the Games … which was fantastic since we do personally find her hilarious. That is especially true with some of her Olympics coverage, where she has been both exceptionally patriotic and also uproariously funny.

Now, we’ve got confirmation that Jones has in fact accepted the invitation, and is heading down to Rio soon! She confirmed the big news in the post on Twitter below, which is full of enthusiasm (and singing!) over her journey over to South America to hopefully commentate on the Games.

Will it be different when she is on NBC proper? Certainly so, given that there will probably be much less cursing, but at the same time she can bring her brand of comedy to a larger audience. Also, we figure that some of the Olympians will appreciate her face-time. Given that these people really only come into national prominence every few years, they don’t often get this sort of passionate fandom, especially mixed with comedy.

We’ll hopefully get a chance to see what sort of good stuff Leslie brings to the table in the coming days. After all, there’s not really a whole lot of time for her to be on the show, since Olympic telecasts are relatively finite.

Of course, we’ll have some other news when it comes to the Olympics and Jones moving forward. For now, head over here to see more of the latest, or sign up over here to get some other TV news on all we cover, sent right over to you via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Rio 2016.)
