‘NCIS’ season 13: Michael Weatherly open to returning as Tony in season 14 and beyond
For anyone out there wondering if Michael Weatherly is really done with “NCIS” after playing Anthony DiNozzo for so many years, the answer seems to be “not necessarily.” While he is done as a series regular and has a new pilot in “Bull” getting positive buzz from CBS, he certainly seems game to come back and do more stories on the show in the future.
Speaking to TVInsider, Weatherly made it clear that he is open to appearing on the show in the future, and made the decision to appear on “NCIS: Los Angeles” recently because he knew he was leaving and wanted to appear on every edition of the franchise before that. he also made it clear lightheartedly that he is glad to just show up at some point just to spend some time with some of his fellow former cast members:
“I know that if they let me come by and visit, I’ll come by and visit … There’s always a free lunch going on here in Santa Clarita.”
It’s always hard to really know when is the right time to stop doing a show, but we don’t think anyone in the known universe can fault Weatherly for making this decision right now. Just look at the 300+ episodes he’s done of this show, and how that amounts to probably full years of his life just in terms of the time he was clocked in. At some point, the time is right to do some other things and see what else you’re capable of.
Ultimately, we’re just glad that we have a chance to see a proper Tony exit. That doesn’t always happen within the world of TV.

Well I wouldn’t count on a “proper exit” for DiNozzo. He wasn’t even on last night’s episode and next week it seems will be dedicated to treating the viewers to Gibbs worrying about Fornell, fatherly comforting to Emily Fornell, and ramping up the Ziva connection. Tony looks to be standing around a bit but that’s all Glasberg ever lets him do. I guess he might get into a shoving match with Kort but that will likely be the extent of action since Gibbs, Fornell, Vance, Bishop, McGee, pretty much anyone but Tony can be in the action scenes under the Glasberg all GIbbs all the time agenda. I think the most Tony fans can hope for is the B or C plot in the last episode, which will granted, be more attention than he’s gotten in the last two seasons.

Well, since Weathery is leaving it open to “visiting,” It seems that they are not going to kill him off. Then again, he could come back as the ghost of DiNozzo. We had a whole bunch of ghosts show up on the tarmac when they brought Dorny’s back to bury him. Yes, I watched most of last night’s episode and I was disappointed by a lack of Tony. I guess MW is supposed to be filming his new show. If they pull the same thing on him that they did with CdP, we won’t see him on next week’s episode either but maybe 10 minutes on the last episode. If he is very, very lucky he will get 10 minutes next week and 15 or 20 minutes on the final. Remember they still need to introduce the new guys in the bullpen. Since the focus is usually on Gibbs, time is not in great supply–only about 43 minutes per episode, the rest being commercials. I’m also wondering if they killed off Fornell or will we see Gibbs hanging out in the hospital for most of the episode.

Belive me MW wasn’t in “Homefront” just because he was filming his new pilot episode… He will get plenty of air time in the final two episodes, I’m sure of it. This is not the same situation like it was with CdP, this is how you are supposed to leave as a professional…
