‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, episode 15 reaction: Julie Plec on making up for lost time

Salvatore -

At the end of Friday night’s new episode of “The Vampire Diaries,” we finally got the sense that the show was ready to move on to the flash-forwards that have been teased for so many months now. Damon made the decision to jump into the coffin, and did so at the expense of his close friendship with Bonnie. (How great were Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder in that scene?)

So in case you’re wondering whether or not some other unanswered questions will get some attention, including Matt’s source of rage and Bonnie’s relationship status, executive producer Julie Plec assures us that they will. Here is what she had to say specifically in her new Entertainment Weekly blog post on the subject:

“The flash-forwards were the brainchild of showrunner Caroline Dries, who thought of them while we were on set last season shooting the season finale. You’ll find there are certain mysteries left unexplored: how did Stefan and Valerie get together? When did Bonnie and Enzo fall in love? Why is Matt Donovan so pissed? Starting next episode, you’ll get the answers in the form of what we’re calling “Bridge Backs,” a.k.a., a series of scenes that flash back to what happened over the three years that have passed since Damon went into the coffin. It’s been a fun conceit for the season, and we hope you’ve enjoyed it.”

So there you have it: There will be some things that are further explored beyond what they are at present, and we are certainly rather relieved and pleased to hear that. The less things are left dangling in the air, the happier that we’re going to be in the end. We’re very much glad that we are finally jumping forward, though, given that the future has been what has really excited us the most the past few episodes once some of the pieces have been starting to connect.
