2016 Super Bowl Commercials: Doritos makes an ultrasound go terribly awry

Super Bowl -Sometimes, you really don’t need to have a super-famous person in order to sell a great Super Bowl commercial, and over the past decade Doritos has done that time and time again by giving independent filmmakers a chance to come up with brilliant ideas for them.

The majority of these are not particularly meaningful … but they are hilarious. The latest one is definitely an example of that.

The idea – A baby wants Doritos so badly that after their after their father throws them to the wayside, they try to come out of the womb as fast as humanly possible … and at an ultrasound. It’s completely silly, but the premise is clear.

What worked – The concept was easy to follow, the joke was a big, belly laugh, and the product was front and center. Sometimes, things don’t have to be altogether complicated. The goal here was to make us laugh, and it did just that.

What didn’t – Maybe there are some out there who will find this humor to be a little bit crude and obnoxious, but this is also the way in which Doritos have chosen to advertise during the game for a long time. There’s not exactly anything that is different this year.

Grade – A-. It’s not the funniest ad we’ve ever seen, but this is definitely one of the funniest ads of the Super Bowl this year. The left turn in the final seconds really throws you for a loop, and there are not too many other ads out there that choose to take these sort of risks.
