‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7, ‘The Originals’ season 3 to do crossover after Friday move
One of the more bizarre things about having both “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” on The CW is that for the most part, neither show has been all that interested in running any sort of extended crossover event. The timelines for the two haven’t always matched up, and we think that the writers for both shows have at times struggled to think of interesting ways to draw the worlds together that would make sense.
Well, we do have some news on that subject today: You will see a crossover coming in the near future! Speaking at the TCA Winter Press Tour network programming head Mark Pedowitz confirmed this news, but also said that it is not going to be anything extreme on the level of what “Arrow” and “The Flash” is doing. It has to bear some sort of logic to the two different worlds.
Ultimately, a way to look at it is this: Not everyone on “The Vampire Diaries” is the biggest fan of Klaus; therefore, we imagine that there are not too many characters who are going to want to spend a lot of time with him or those close to him. They have to figure out a way that either forces some Mystic Falls residents to head to New Orleans, or have Klaus, Elijah, or someone else head east for a particular mission. We also think it’d be somewhat of a letdown if the characters from “The Originals” that you saw on “The Vampire Diaries” were ones completely unfamiliar with that world.
These two shows are both going to return to the network with new episodes on Friday, January 29. In some ways, the move to Fridays may be one of the reasons why this crossover is happening; both shows need to ensure that they have the best ratings possible.
