‘Saturday Night Live’: Adam Driver to host January 16 return

SNL -This weekend marked the final “Saturday Night Live” of 2015, but typically NBC does take advantage of this as an opportunity to announce the return date and/or the host for their next show in January. After all, why not start to build a little buzz during what is most-likely going to be a high-rated show?

Ultimately, NBC decided to do this in announcing that none other than Adam Driver, fresh off of his big role on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” is going to be hosting the show for the first time. No musical guest has been set. Driver is a New York staple already, being that he stars on HBO’s “Girls” as Adam. His co-star Lena Dunham has hosted the show before, and the network also did a full-on “Girls” spoof at one point.

This gig further cements “SNL” as the show that really does like to strike while the iron is hot, and for Driver it is simply a chance to do something completely different, live, and plenty of fun. The show does tend to have a movie star at some point in a January show; in the past, they have also had Jennifer Lawrence in this similar sort of spot.

For now, we’re feeling fairly excited about this, and it’s certainly possible that some of his “Star Wars” co-stars could come on at some point. Many of them, including John Boyega and Daisy Ripley, appeared in the audition video spoof earlier this year.

We’ll have more on this show as it gets closer to airing!
