Fox looking at potential ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ with special

MasterChef -

Is there potential for a “Celebrity MasterChef” in the future? We have to say that when it comes to adapting a reality-show franchise for celebrities, it feels like it’d be a perfect fit. You can get famous people showing a different side of themselves, one that may make them a little more relatable to the audience in the process.

This is why, per Deadline, Fox is looking at a January 18 special that could eventually turn into something more if they like the ratings. Christina Tosi and Gordon Ramsay will be on hand to host, and a Fox release says the following about the premise:

“The two-hour special tests the culinary skills of the celebrity competitors, and also pits previous MasterChef winners against some of MasterChef Junior‘s Season Four contestants, as they compete in the following showdowns to win a cash prize for the charities of their choice.”

We feel like if a “Celebrity MasterChef” ever comes to pass, its format should be similar more to the flagship show than a one-off competition like “Chopped,” but this is a good start. The celebrities set to appear in the special are Gigi Hadid vs. Devon Windsor, Terry Crews and Rebecca Crews vs. Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker, and Kaitlin Doubleday vs. Ta’Rhonda Jones. The problem with most of this group is that they’re not all huge stars. Hadid is probably the biggest name going right now of the group, and the other showdowns seem to involve Fox comedy actors and stars of “Empire” going after each other.

Ultimately, we’ll see what happens here. We don’t want a celebrity version of the show to replace the original, but we wouldn’t mind if Fox cut back on “MasterChef Junior” to one season a year since they are really driving that franchise into the ground.
