‘Call the Midwife’ season 6 confirmed before season 5 even premieres on BBC
The BBC is clearly not interested in making “Call the Midwife” fans wait regarding more news on the future of the show.
Earlier this week, the network announced that there will be another batch of new episodes of the series coming in 2017, which brings the show all the way up to six seasons, or “series” as they are called in the United Kingdom. In a statement, executive producer Pippa Harris had the following message to pass along:
“I am delighted that the BBC has decided to commission series six of Call The Midwife even before we have gone on air with series five! It really demonstrates their commitment to and passion for the show. The ongoing success of Call The Midwife is down to the incredible writing skills of Heidi Thomas and the talent and dedication of our wonderful cast and crew. I hope the audience will enjoy watching series five, which I firmly believe is our strongest yet.”
We feel like one of the biggest reasons at the moment for the BBC’s continued faith in “Call the Midwife” as a brand is that it perfectly exhibits a show’s ability to withstand change. Despite the departure of Jessica Raine at the end of season 3 it remained a smash hit in Britain last year, and that is even with Miranda Hart making only sporadic appearances as Chummy. At the moment, Hart is not expected to appear at all on the upcoming fifth season as she takes on a variety of other gigs.
