‘Supergirl’ episode 7 reaction: David Harewood reacts to J’onn J’onzz twist
There are some things that we did not anticipate seeing on any comic-book show for some time, and Martian Manhunter is one of them. We just assumed that J’onn J’onzz was being saved for some DC movie down the line, but on tonight’s “Supergirl” episode it was revealed that Hank Henshaw is actually no longer Hank at all; that man died, and in his place the famed Martian is living out his life.
So where is this reveal going to take us? Given that only Alex knows right now, it does put him in an interesting place where he has to trust someone who is from planet Earth, and this is something that he’s not use to doing.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in a post-mortem about the installment, David Harewood had the following to say:
“It’s certainly not an easy thing for him to reveal. Only one other person knows the truth, and that’s Superman. It’s a big thing for him to suddenly have somebody else know his true identity. He’s saying in future episodes that even people that he’s loved have tried to kill him once they find out he’s an alien. That’s one of the things they touch upon in the comics. Even people who get very close to him almost feel betrayed when they find out that he’s not who he says he is. He runs the risk of falling foul of people if he does tell the truth.”
Personally, our hope is that we get to see a Martian Manhunter episode or two down the line over the course of this season, mostly because we really like the character and he is someone with his own unique backstory. Why not learn more about him in the midst of some of his adventures at the DEO?

I was wondering who the “one other person” was that knows his secret. Thanks for answering that for me!
