‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 12: More on Mr. Freeze!

Gotham

If the Big Bad for the first half of “Gotham” season 2 was none other than Theo Galavan, then all early indications are that the second half of the season is going to become a little chilly. Specifically, we’re talking here about the arrival of Nathan Darrow (“House of Cards”) as Victor Fries, the man who eventually becomes the Mr. Freeze persona from the Batman comics.

Based on the tease that we saw at the end of Monday’s episode, he may already be well on his way to becoming that character! The photo above was first posted by USA Today early Monday, with Darrow telling the site the following about what he appreciates about the character:

“Victor has one central intimate human connection, and that’s with his wife. There’s something really, really interesting and vulnerable and difficult about that. Of course, that is threatened by her illness. In some of the research I did on the character as he has evolved in the comic book, he has a more tenuous connection with humanity and his own humanity, and she’s it. He is applying all his talents and skills and energies to maintaining that.”

Much of the joy when it comes to the Victor character will be seeing how the show strikes the balance between the heartache, the evil, and the comical. This is one of the hardest villains to adapt for all of those reasons, and we’re really not sure at the moment if anyone has gotten it completely right. That is one of a wide array of things that we’re interested in learning more about over time this season.

Unfortunately, “Gotham” is off the air until February 29, but we’ll have further news in the interim!
