Could ‘Doctor Who’ season 10 have a reduced run of episodes?

Doctor WhoThe ninth season of “Doctor Who” is more than halfway through its run at the moment on the BBC, but if the latest reports turn out to be true, then we could be looking at a situation moving forward where season 10 would already be over by now.

According to a new report from the Mirror, the BBC is looking to cut the order for next season in half to six episodes, mostly to accommodate a busy workload for star Peter Capaldi. The actor wants to take on some other projects, including directing a movie inspired by his old band The Dreamboys. This would give him a chance to do so, and we think that if it is true, it could actually be the best for all parties involved. Remember also that showrunner Steven Moffat also has filming for “Sherlock” season 4 set for early next year, and this would allow him a chance to work on both shows without passing out from exhaustion. There would also still be a Christmas Special.

We once again say here that if the report is true, it is also more or less confirmation that Capaldi will be back for at least one more season as The Doctor. He has been sensational in the role, though ratings have declined in the UK for the recent run of new episodes. We don’t really blame him so much for that; instead, it is more that we are on the other side of the 50th anniversary special, and without all of the easy ways to get attention to the show (departures, additions, and so on), it is harder to generate publicity or encourage diehard fans to watch live.

What do you think: Could a shorter run of “Doctor Who” give more weight to the episodes, or are you just sad that it means less of the show? Share below! Also, head over here to receive some other updates on all things The Doctor!
