‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ episode 5 preview: Darren Criss vs. Kathy Bates in ‘Room Service’

For all of those who love “American Horror Story” and Darren Criss, a perfect intersection is coming your way next week in “Room Service.” This is the continuation to what we saw on the show Wednesday night with “Devil’s Night,” which was a window into a series of pretty terrible things … including a dinner featuring Mr. March and some of the most infamous killers of all time.

FX is never one to release a plethora of details before an episode airs, but they have supplied us at least with the following:

“Alex uses an unconventional treatment to save a dying patient. A Halloween-hating couple tests Iris’s limits.”

Does this sound at least fascinating to anyone else? The one thing that we would say right now is that we hope next week’s installment does a little bit more to further the long-term story than something as isolated as what we saw tonight. As creepy as it may have been in order to see Mr. March and his fascinating dinner party, how much of that really matters at the end? We really feel like this needs to be a major step forward, and one that centers the show more around whatever sort of story it is trying to tell. For far too long during Wednesday’s episode, it felt more about the spectacle and the weirdness than a desire to tell a story that made sense. Given the bizarre nature of things, the best thing we can say about it is that it is shorter than most other episodes.
