‘Supergirl’ premiere preview: Go behind the scenes with Melissa Benoist, cast

Monday night at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time will feature one of the most-anticipated premieres in recent memory … or at least the current TV season. CBS is working hard to make “Supergirl” into a massive hit. It’s had a big marketing campaign, DC Comics ethos pouring out from every direction, and also hype just based on the brand itself.

Will it be a huge success? We’re tempering our expectations ever so slightly, mostly because of our concern that the ratings for “The Flash,” while excellent for The CW, would not make a huge hit on CBS. Also, we’re not sure just what the thirst is for comic-book stories among mainstream viewers anymore.

Still, we are very excited, and the sneak peek video below should make you even more so. After all, it features Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, and many other cast members talking the characters, filming the pilot, and getting the chance to dive into this world. For many of them, this is potentially the biggest thing that they’ve ever been a part of, and we say that with the knowledge that Benoist was on “Glee” and Leigh was a key part of “Grey’s Anatomy” for many years. Surpassing Calista Flockhart’s title role on “Ally McBeal” may be the biggest challenge of them all.

We’re going to be back tomorrow with a full review of the “Supergirl” premiere, but for now we’ll say that while there are flaws, there is also still potential for this to be everything fans of the show want and then some.
