‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 spoilers: What Danai Gurira wants to see from Michonne
Welcome to the week of “Walking Dead“! Thanks to the AMC series airing a new episode on Sunday, we definitely imagine that we are going to potentially have some more extensive updates to share over the coming days than we’ve had really for the entire summer.
In some articles, we’re going to be looking at specific characters, and that includes today and Michonne. She is someone who we feel like we’ve seen some of in the form of her past, but at the same time, we don’t feel like we have really cracked the potential yet of who the character could be. Some of this is just the result of there being around a billion different people on this show, and as a result of that there is only so much time that you can give to each person.
Michonne is someone who has started to open up and shed herself of the walls she put up as a result of her past, and of course as a result of that, there are people who’d like to see her have more of a romantic story arc; specifically, there are many who would like to see it happen with Rick.
While Danai Gurira herself is a little more diplomatic on the subject of her character’s romantic hopes, she told Entertainment Weekly that for her, one of the priorities moving forward is just to see the character continue to grow and change as a result of some of the revelations she has made:
“What I would like for Michonne is that every pocket of her humanity be explored. Her decision to not go back to being who she used to be, and stepping back into the messiness of a community and relationships of any sorts and caring for people even at the risk of losing them — it’s the whole thing for her. She just wants to live, and what does that look like? What does living look like? A part of what living looks like is allowing yourself to be known, which is certainly what she was not doing when we first met her. So going to the point where now I’m going to allow people to know me, I’m going to be open to people, I want people to know me a little bit more. What will that look like?”
