‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: Lana Parrilla talks Regina as hero

 

“Once Upon a Time” is a show that has been themed for some time around heroes and villains, but one of the things that they have done a rather special job at is making it clear that nobody is necessarily confined to being a specific kind of person. Even if you are one of the most terrible people out there, there is still somehow a chance that you could turn things around and become at least a reasonably different person.

For Regina, this is something that she may have to do if she wants to ensure that Emma Swan doesn’t descend into darkness. While we’ve heard a few things here and there over time suggesting that the character would be more in a heroic position, Lana Parrilla’s comments below via Entertainment Weekly are the first time that we’ve heard it put in such direct terms:

“Regina is going to the hero … It’s really her journey of exploring that. It’s an immense amount of responsibility. We’ll see her evolving into this role and we’ll see where she ends up.”

Of course, Regina is going to have plenty of help thanks to Snow White, Prince Charming, Henry, and Captain Hook, but she brings an X-factor to the table that few other people have. She knows magic inside and out, and even more than that, she knows how villains think. Sure, Hook has done his fair share of dastardly deeds, but the motivation was always different. She can relate to Emma’s struggle in a way nobody else can.
