ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5 video: Are Olivia and Fitz finally getting their time in the sun?

Fans of “Scandal” have been waiting to see Olivia and Fitz get together for quite some time, but it appears now that it may be finally happening in some sort of larger, more meaningful way.

The first promo below was released by ABC earlier today, and it is obviously putting much of the focus on the relationship betwen Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn’s characters. It is every bit as steamy as you would expect given that these two seem about ready to embrace being an actual couple after having to spend so long trying to hide their relationship in just about every way possible … or just not have one, depending on what part of the series’ run you are talking about.

Ultimately, the most shocking moment of the entire promo comes when we hear from Fitz to Mellie that he is going to divorce her. Sure, the end of last season suggested that we were going to be going in this direction, but there is often a difference between making an assumption and also it actually happening. Fitz has always held firm to his marriage in the past even despite his feelings, likely thinking that he needed to at least present the illusion of stability for the sake of his political career.

Now, we imagine that he really does not even care that much. After all, why would he? Think about that for a minute or two. Here is a guy who already has a huge chunk of his life in politics behind him, and he may feel now like he has very little to lose.
