‘Dancing with the Stars 21’ spoilers: Vine star Hayes Grier latest addition to cast

There is always at least one person per season of “Dancing with the Stars” who we have never heard of going into the season, so why wouldn’t this one be any different?

Let’s make one thing very clear: This is not a slam against Hayes Grier. We’re just not in any position to know who he is. We don’t use Vine, and while we are active on social media, we’re not really out there looking for other web personalities to follow. Grier is well-known to young people thanks to Vine, and he also has almost three million followers on Twitter. Not bad for a guy who is only 15 years old.

This move is great for Grier’s fans, since it gives them someone to root for on a show that does not always have someone for this demographic. With this being said, we should add in here that we’re not entirely sure how we feel about more and more minors competing on the series. (Bindi Irwin is also under 18 as of this writing.) There are only so many hours that they can work, and this is also a huge spotlight to force onto someone who is still probably figuring out who they are.

The good thing for Grier is that he is young enough that he should be able to pick up the moves very quickly, and if his following translates into votes, he will be around a long time. The closest comparison here is YouTube star Bethany Mota, who made it really far when she was on the show.
