‘The Bachelor’ host Chris Harrison predictably slams ‘UnREAL’ as ‘terrible’

UnREAL -Just in case you needed some more evidence that “The Bachelor” and “UnREAL” are never going to be pals, we’ve got it for you now courtesy of some new comments from show host Chris Harrison.

We certainly did not expect to see Harrison rise as a champion to the Lifetime series, created by former “Bachelor” producer Sarah Shapiro. As a matter of fact, he’d probably be in trouble if he did. This is a show that depicts producers as desperate people ready to spin stories into good TV as well as people with no moral compass or interest in contestants’ well-being. Meanwhile, their host is an unintelligent robot and their version of the show creator is a womanizing blowhard who revels in his own misogyny.

Since it is unexpected that Harrison would hate the show, let’s just go ahead and check out his comments to Variety:

“The main difference that I’ve seen is that people watch The Bachelor … It’s complete fiction. As much as they would love to jump on our coattails — they were begging for us to talk about it and for people to write about it — at the end of the day, no one is watching. I mean, absolutely nobody is watching that show. Why? It is terrible. It is really terrible.”

Let’s go ahead and correct Harrison now on a few things:

1. “UnREAL” is not terrible at all; it may actually be our second-favorite new show this year behind only “Better Call Saul.” It’s superbly crafted and while at times it may be a little over-dramatic, it is always a good time.

2. While it is true that the show draws pretty poor ratings, it was renewed for a second season. Clearly, there were enough people watching to make that happen.

Is it true that the show is coattail-riding to a certain extent? Sure, but “The Bachelor” franchise acting like it doesn’t exist just seems petty and arrogant. We think this would be a great opportunity to try to just have fun and prove them wrong, like present us with a taste of what life is really like behind the scenes and try to present a more lighthearted image.
