‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 spoilers: Danai Gurira on Rick – Michonne romance hopes
Is there a chance that we could see Rick and Michonne actually get together on “The Walking Dead” season 6? It is probably still too early to say definitively one way or another that something is going to happen, but we personally feel like it is possible.
For us, the biggest thing holding the two back is strictly a matter of whether Rick has the time or the emotions to give to a relationship like this. He is so much in “leader mode” that he cannot flip the switch easily, and reconcile everything that he has done to put in the work that a romance requires. We feel like it is somewhat easier with someone like Jessie at the moment for him, mostly because she doesn’t know him nearly as well and seem so many of his emotional highs and lows. This may also damage this particular relationship more in the long-run … if it even happens.
Obviously, Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln are very aware of the fan desires to see the two characters together. She even spoke about it at recently to Entertainment Weekly on their radio show:
“The Richonne thing—we get it a lot. They’re friends, you know. And people want that. I love that folks want Michonne to get some. I always say that. I say to my boss, ‘Michonne’s a nun. She don’t give none, she don’t get none.’”
If this ever changes for Michonne, the struggle will be implementing it without over-emphasizing it at the same exact time. The show wants to remain at its core about survival and about suspense, and not so much a love story.

Look. If Maggie and Glenn can be a couple, why can’t Rick and Michonne? I mean they are practically husband and wife. They just need to consummate this marriage. These two need to get it on. Seriously. I’ve been waiting for over 3 years and I don’t think I can wait any longer. But, I’m willing to work something out with Scott Gimble…. Dear Mr. Gimble, If you at least give us a Richonne kiss in S6, and I don’t mean a peck on the cheek, I mean full on R-rated kiss, then I’ll continue to watch the show. Sincerely, a dedicated fan of the show and comics.

I feel that Rick needs that emotional loving connection to keep him grounded and to take the edge off, and the only person I see that happening with, in the apocalypse, is michonne. He needs someone he can talk to, someone he trust, someone who understands him, and can help him through his PTSD, and that someone is Michonne. Being with her makes him a better person. She helps him subdue his erratic tendencies and helps him act more rationally.
As far as the argument that he doesn’t have time for a romantic relationship, well it’s a little to late for that. IMO the romance between rick and michonne all ready exist, it just hasn’t been verbalized. Plus, he made time for Lori, even though their marriage was on the rocks. So Rick becoming romantically involved with a person who he has a strong, solid, unbreakable bond with should not be an obstacle, quite the contrary. So IMO, it would be unnatural for their relationship not to mature romantically.

I am so ready for Richonne. It is the only logical step. I find this notion that the show having romance and being about survival can’t coexist asinine. Also it’s not just fan girls wanting the two together. If you have good writing it should not be a problem. The whole hairdresser situation is bad writing. You expect us to believe that after all the trauma Rick went through and trust hes lost, he is ready to just trust this random woman? Also it sets his character way back, in the way he handled the situation. So I would rather them not shove this down our throats. But Rick and Michonne, the build up/trust is there. I’m talking intimate build up. Make it happen ya’ll!

I think Rick and Michonne belong together. If he doesn’t have time for romance with Michonne, then how can he possibly have time for romance with his hairdresser?
