Lucy Lawless downplays ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ reboot (for now)

NBC -There were a variety of stories that in part took over the news cycle on Monday, and one of the biggest revolved around “Xena: Warrior Princess” possibly getting a reboot on NBC.

The earlier report suggested that the series, which could include original star Lucy Lawless with both a role on camera and behind the scenes, had some of the original producers on board and was now looking for a writer. However, Lawless herself writes on Twitter that this is still in the “wishful thinking” stage, and is far away from happening. We’re not writing this off just yet as a firm possibility, and there are a variety of reasons why Lawless may want to downplay the talks right now.

What’s the biggest one? Making sure that fans do not get overly excited over something that does not work out. There tends to be a thing in show business that if something goes terribly south, everyone blames the people who had nothing really to do with it. That often includes the star of the show, and Lawless is the face of “Xena” no matter how you look at it.

We imagine that if there is something serious going on with this show, we will probably hear about it in August when the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour happens in Los Angeles. NBC will want to hype up some of their new projects, and there may be a minute or two in there where someone can ask a question or two about this.

We are going to have some other news related to this project as it comes out, so be on the lookout moving forward. Also, head over here in the event you want some other TV news on just about everything we cover, sent right in your direction via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
