‘Royal Pains’ season 7, episode 5 review: Evan’s discovery; a Jeremiah mystery

Here is a scary thought that you may not have wanted to think about before tonight: There are only three episodes left of “Royal Pains” following tonight’s episode. Given the state of flux for many of these characters, the final episodes are going to have their work cut out for them.

Let’s start tonight with the biggest cliffhanger of the night: Is Dr. Sacani on the run? He has not committed a crime or anything of that measure, but he does seem to be suffering under the pain of what happened to him financially. Maybe this is an easy way to write the character off the show for a time … though (SPOILER ALERT) photos for next week’s new episode show that he is back in some capacity. No need to worry about him for now.

This episode to us had a decidedly disjointed feel, mostly because we were left to balance so many different stories that really had no major connection to each other. Hank, for example, helped in New York City with a medical crisis involving an interpreter who suffered from a rare sort of reflexive seizure. Meanwhile, Divya found herself stuck in a situation that feels almost like the Hamptons version of “The Bachelorette,” and Paige learned that the reason for the delay on the home renovations is because the repairman was temporarily calling the place his own home.

Then, you had the night’s other insane cliffhanger courtesy of the reveal that Boris has been working on a top-secret project, and one that Evan found out about after snooping and starting to detect that something with him is off. Is this exciting? Sure, but with Boris we never quite know what the purpose of the story is, or where it is going to go. That’s why we are still feeling somewhat uneasy on how this can be resolved over three episodes. Grade: B-.
