‘Elementary’ season 4 spoilers: Some further details surface on Sherlock’s father

ElementaryFor the first three seasons of “Elementary,” the writers / producers have set up the idea of Sherlock Holmes’ dad in a way that made him out to be some sort of epic mystery. This was a guy who not a whole lot was known about, other than that he had some sort of hold of what his son did, and wanted to at least ensure an aspect of his physical health. However, at the same time he has a reputation for being extremely enigmatic, and not the sort of man who is particularly easy to pin down.

Well finally, the show is going to give us a taste of this man in the flesh on the upcoming fourth season after having some near-misses. Maybe this is a way in order to ensure that this character gets some time in the story before the series ends (its ratings or declining), or maybe it just feels creatively like the time is right given the recent relapse at the end of season 3.

Regardless of the reason, executive producer Rob Doherty was kind enough to say the following to Entertainment Weekly about the character when asked how to describe him:

“Sherlock’s dad, like Sherlock, is a complicated man … When Sherlock has described him, he hasn’t painted a picture of a very loving father… and yet it’s worth noting this will be the second time he’s taken steps to help his son during a difficult time.”

Ultimately, we feel like this is a guy who does care very much about his son. However, at the same time this is also a man who has a very hard time actually showing some of these feelings.
