‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 12: Where Ellen Pompeo, cast could go from here
Twelve years ago, who would have thought that “Grey’s Anatomy” would still be on the air? This was a midseason show for ABC starring then-relatively-unknown Ellen Pompeo and a producer in Shonda Rhimes who did not have that many noteworthy TV credits at the time. The network took a big gamble, and it has turned everyone involved into huge stars.
Now, we are staring squarely in the face of what could be the show’s final season in the fall … even though we do not know yet if that is officially the case. The network’s own boss in Paul Lee has already said that he wants the show to last for at least a little while longer. Pompeo is signed for at least one more season, and it is a new chapter in her life. Much like the final few episodes of the season, she has to figure out what her life now looks like as a single mother of three children, mourning her past with Derek but moving forward. He would not want her to spend the rest of her life alone and wondering what their life together could have been.
The show obviously is not just about Meredith. We still have many stories to tell for Jackson and April, we will hopefully have a meatier story for Callie and Arizona, and maybe Richard Webber will finally start to be happy in his personal life. He did finally get married, so maybe that is a start.
The new season will most likely premiere in late September, and since filming begins over the summer, we will have some more news before then.
