‘The Late Show with David Letterman’: Bill Murray, Tom Hanks among final guests
Admittedly, we have thought for many weeks now that Bill Murray was going to be the final guest on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” he was the first person to ever appear with Dave on “Late Night” over on NBC, and he fulfilled the role again on ‘”The Late Show” when Dave moved over to CBS. Overall, he has appeared more than 40 times on the show, and is probably most famous at this point for the wacky way in which he arrives to the studio. Somehow, Murray always figures out a way to do this that surprises us.
Now, he is officially going to have one last time to try this. Murray has been confirmed as Dave’s main guest for the Tuesday, May 19 show that will be the second-to-last one that he does before retiring. At present, nobody knows other than CBS and potentially Dave. Maybe it is someone sentimental that has meant a lot to his career, or it could be just a wide array of people who stop by and share a few memories here and there.
For the most part, you do still get the sense that the farewell tour for Dave is a happy one, and one that the network is enjoying being a part of. When Jay Leno departed to make way for Jimmy Fallon, the real difference there was that Jay had already departed “The Tonight Show” once before, and the tributes did not feel quite the same.
This feels different, especially since Dave still seems to have a hard time accepting that so many people love him and his work.
Also, Tom Hanks is going to be the guest on the May 18 show, adding to the roster of big names.
