NBC’s ‘The Voice’ results: Did #VoiceSave help Kimberly Nichole, India Carney, Joshua Davis?
Tonight’s episode of “The Voice” was definitely in many ways a reunion. We had Jacquie Lee, Avery Wilson, Vicci Martinez, and Craig Wayne Boyd all return in one form or another to perform new music, and at the same time, there were also plenty of results that had to be bellowed out by host Carson Daly.
Going into the episode, it was pretty assured that both Sawyer Fredericks and Meghan Linsey were going to be safe, mostly because they each had that coveted multiplier on iTunes (a.k.a. a nice way for the show to use its viewers to make some extra money). We also were pretty confident about Joshua Davis, who at least did pretty well on the sales charts. Unfortunately, we were slightly more worried about India Carney, Koryn Hawthorne, and Kimberly Nichole.
When Koryn was declared safe before Joshua, we thought it was possible that there may be a surprise on the night. Yet, Josh was declared safe after that, so there really was no drama that it came down to between India and Kimberly for who would be sticking around.
Now as we’re writing this, we are admittedly more than a little shocked by what we saw. This was not even that close of a result to us. Kimberly was clearly better in the sing-off, and was probably stronger by a few miles over the course of the season. How did this elimination happen? We’re honestly not sure. Maybe she was so good that she intimidated voters? It’s hard to say, but this is the saddest we’ve been over any elimination this season.

So preferred Kimberly and will miss her performances. I keep hearing how classically trained India is and I’m not feeling it. Is she pretty? Absolutely, stunning, and her voice is pretty, but Kimberly is also a beautiful woman and when she sings it’s transforming. Also looking at the retweet numbers that night, I’m not sure how India won. Must have missed something or they were keeping results hidden.

Free Fallin’ was a perfect choice for India, not a song one would think was in her wheelhouse. Technically, I consider India to be a better singer than Kimberly. However, when it comes to presence and performance, Kimberly wins that contest. Song choice makes a big difference. If nothing else, the one thing I’ve learned since watching the Voice is that we are a country music-centric nation. The heartland helped India eek out a win over Kimberly, primarily because India is more “familiar” and accessible. Kimberly’s edginess and over the top performances, while exciting might have been somewhat off putting to the Blake Shelton crowd and let’s face reality here: India consciously played to that audience and Kimberly did not. Unfortunately, performers and politicians alike must know who their audience is and how to pander to them.

Whitebread ways? People making race an issue in such things as a singing contest that has nothing to do with race seem petty to me. People like the voices of people for the simple reason they like the voices of people, it has zero to do with color of one’s skin or their ethnicity. I love Bruno Mars, not because he is black, but because he is awesome, gifted and a great entertainer. I love Reba McIntyre because she is awesome, gifted and a great entertainer. I am not particularly fond of Blake Shelton’s music, but he seems like a nice person.
I would buy any music Pharrell makes but is not crazy about Xtina. I also love Nina Simone, Taylor Swift, Shakira, James Taylor, Katie Perry, David Gray and many other songsters.
Can you tell me what color I am?
BTW, this is in reply to Kcal, my tweet has zero to do with Matt Carter
