NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Meghan Linsey, Sawyer Fredericks, India Carney perform in top 6 show

Voice -Tonight, the remaining contestants on “The Voice” came out with a new challenge: Performing two songs, and doing enough over the course of the night to make voters want to rally behind you. Nobody tonight was bad, and that makes the challenge all the trickier.

Granted, we would say that some still were better than others, and there were some singers who really pushed themselves to the next level others played it a little bit safer with some of their song choices. We’ll be updated a few assorted elements of the review below as time passes; tomorrow, we will give you at least the tentative results of the iTunes voting that determines at least in part who will probably be safe as we prepare for the next round next week and the eventual crowning of the winner.

Sawyer Fredericks

“Take Me to the River” – Sawyer is clearly the favorite. However, we’re not quite sure this suited him. If there was a week for him to be a surprise boot, this could be it. Also, maybe this is proof that those wanting him to shake things him up and do something upbeat spoke too soon?

“Shine On” – We did not know the song before we heard him perform it on the show. Definitely a pleasant and emotional performance, but we really cannot sit here and proclaim that there was much about it that blew us into another dimension.

Joshua Davis

“In My Life” – If the audience wasn’t clapping through all of this, it would have been a really great, soft, touching performance. Joshua did everything here that he could.

“Desire” – Major props to Josh for taking a huge risk with a song from U2, which is not the easiest band in the world to cover. He did get a little lost at times in the sound, but it was still impressive.

Meghan Linsey

“Steamroller Blues” – Surprisingly, this was not really that pleasant at all. It’s a great song, but Meghan screamed the majority of it to the point where it was not really even singing.

“Amazing Grace” – A religious classic, and a million times better than her first performance. When you consider that this was the last performance of the night and her mentor being Blake Shelton, we feel certain that she will be advancing.

India Carney

“Glory” – Great on India for really going for it. Unfortunately, we’re not sure that she captured the power of the song enough; that said, big ups for finding a way to singing the Common part.

“Lay Me Down” – This show loves Sam Smith! This was a solid, emotional performance from India, but we’re not completely convinced yet it will propel her to the next round.

Kimberly Nichole

“Free Fallin'” – We’re shaking at head at someone for the song choice? Kimberly’s power is in her incredible voice, and this sleepy song really does not give her enough to do.

“Dirty Diana” – Much more Kimberly’s speed vocally, but we cannot say that it is going to be enough to get her into the next round, especially when everyone else was so great.

Koryn Hawthorne

“Everybody Hurts” – Gorgeous vocal. Seriously. Koryn the past few weeks has officially supplanted Kimberly as the most deserving challenger to Sawyer for the crown. She’s a killer singer, and she’s starting to compete with his emotional connection.

“Dream On” – Seriously one of the hardest songs ever, and Amanda Brown killed it seasons ago. She couldn’t hit the notes like Amanda could, but it was still a really competent, powerful performance of an insanely difficult song.
