‘Empire’ season 2 spoilers: Gabourey Sidibe, Ta’Rhonda Jones promoted to regulars
With big ratings come a bigger budget for some shows, and the opportunity to spread the love a little more amongst your cast. This is clearly something that “Empire” is feeling at the moment, given that a pair of actors in Gabourey Sidibe and Ta’Rhonda Jones were just promoted to series regular for their role on the Fox series.
This news was first confirmed by TVLine, but we have to be honest here when we say that we thought that Sidibe already had the “series regular” honor attached to her name. After all, this is a woman who already had a bit part last season, and we figured this could be in part of why she was not appearing regularly on “American Horror Story.” Now that this promotion is official, we’ll be shocked if we don’t see her even more in upcoming episodes. It is still possible that she may not be around as much as we think, especially given the ties that Ryan Murphy has already to Fox and how much he likes Sidibe working on his “American Horror Story” series. She can do both, right?
Given the success of the first season, you have to assume that expectations will be through the roof moving forward. Fox now knows that they have a hit here, and the same goes for the cast. While we’re not sure we that there will be many more promotions to series regular, we do think that there will be a large array of guest stars coming aboard … not to mention a few recurring players to boot.
The second season of “Empire” should premiere on Fox this fall.
