‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: The BBC teases curious new monster

Doctor Who -Let’s face it: Now is typically not the time that the BBC gives us some first real looks at “Doctor Who” and their characters. In many ways, this is what makes what we have here all the more surprising and also exciting!

The attached photo is of a mysterious new monster that Peter Capaldi’s Doctor will be squaring off against at some point in season 9. To us, it looks almost like someone has stuck a Frisbee on top of a body and then put a red decal on it like one of those bicycle reflectors that you see in traffic. That being said, we also rather like it. We mostly just love the fact that the series still uses the tried-and-true method of actually creating real costumes for their monsters, and does not just rely on CGI and other effects to tell their story. This feels more authentic, and at times we’d even argue that it is scarier.

In general, we are not going to criticize the show at all for coming up with new monsters. There have been so many different times already over the years where we have seen Daleks and Cybermen take center stage, and occasionally we do like to have some new blood thrown in there to mix it up.

This monster will appear at some point probably within the earlier portion of season 9, based on where we are at present in filming. This season in turn will begin airing most likely in September, at least if the show wants to capture the same tradition that it established for itself last year.
