‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Taraji P. Henson and ‘Empire’ jokes aplenty with Taran Killam

SNL -This weekend, Taraji P. Henson is going to be the host of “Saturday Night Live,” and we at present have one very specific word to describe it: Excited. This has the potential to be a really fun show! Taraji is making her first appearance over on this series after being a part of “Empire” for a hugely successful first season, and based on the first promo for the series below, it feels very much like the show is going to mil that for all its worth.

Luckily, Henson seems to have a good sense of humor about the fact that despite a great acting career to this point, she is for the most part known for playing one character in Cookie Lyon. She had a little bit of fun with Taran Killam on the subject, does a few physical bits, and even does an extremely punny bit near the end where she and Taran each don umpire outfits and spend a little of time going back and forth with one another before trying to kiss and getting their helmets locked together. Good times.

If there was anything that we would be worried about going into the show, it is mostly that we could see the series almost try too hard to bow to the success of “Empire,” and make something that is not so entertaining to those who haven’t seen the show. We’ll have to see what comes up this weekend.
