David Duchovny on ‘X-Files’ revival, returning characters

X Files -While it may still be a rather long time until you actually start to see much of anything substantial when it comes to the return of “The X-Files” on Fox, at least you can be rest assured that the show is in fact coming back! Not only that, but we actually have our first TV interview all about it with David Duchovny.

Speaking on “The Late Show with David Letterman” last night, Duchovny joked that he was someone to hop from one job to the next in an effort to make everything work adequately. He’s referencing here “Aquarius,” which is the other gig that he has at the moment on NBC that is going to air alongside “Hannibal,” a show that ironically features Gillian Anderson. He attributes the return to all of the legions of people out there who desperately wanted to see the show back after so much time off the air.

As for if anyone else will be returning, Duchovny added that “Mitch Pileggi will come back, and the cigarette-smoking man, if that means anything to anyone, will be coming back.” So there you have it: Some sort of roster is already being put into place.

In theory, all of this sounds great. The only reason that we have one of our feet on an imaginary brake here is because more often than not, high expectations are dangerous, as is tampering with nostalgia. Fans have had an opportunity for years now to build up what a return for Mulder and Scully would look like, and they expect all of that to be encapsulated into six episodes. There’s no way you can please everyone; the only thing that you can hope for is that you please yourself, and some other people enjoy the journey along the way.
