‘The X Factor’ UK spoilers: Louis Walsh may be exiting for Robbie Williams
Given all of the sudden changes to “The X Factor,” it was safe to assume that more would be coming. After all, if you are going to dispatch someone in Dermot O’Leary who for the most part was fairly spectacular as a host, then you are making it clear that someone like Louis Walsh is expendable. The man has good moments every now and then, but the past few years he has been relegated to becoming Simon Cowell’s punching bag and his acts rarely win. He’s like Randy Jackson from “American Idol”: Out of catchphrases and in need of a break from the spotlight.
Luckily, it appears that the show may be plotting his escape plan already. According to the Daily Star, Robbie Williams could be set to replace Louis on the panel, which feels to us to be a pretty perfect person to come on board. His onetime Take That bandmate Gary Barlow was wonderful in two seasons, and Robbie is consistently an entertaining guy with a big personality. He wouldn’t cower down or take any you-know-what from Simon. He’s also reasonably relevant to most of the contestants trying out for the show, so he would have a lot to offer them.
There’s also a hint or two in the report suggesting that One Direction member Louis Tomlinson could also sign on, but that to us feels like a longshot. While Tomlinson has shown himself to be the most capable member of this band to fill such a role in the future, he’s also insanely busy at the moment. Maybe you bring him in as a guest mentor for a week, but he is currently touring around the world with One Direction while still trying to process the departure of bandmate Zayn Malik.
If you had not heard previously, Caroline Flack and Olly Murs are the frontrunners to be the new host of the show … which is basically the only replacement for Dermot that we would possibly accept in a million years.
