‘Once Upon a Time’ season 4, episode 12 video: Queens of Darkness, unite!

Is it time that the villains got there happy ending? This is something that Rumpelstiltskin asks Ursula, Maleficent, and Cruella de Vil in the sneak peek below for Sunday’s “Once Upon a Time” spring premiere, and they all seem to be very much interested in listening.

What is rather interesting about this preview is that it is almost an origin story for how these three ladies all started working together, and with Robert Carlyle’s character serving as the de facto leader. This preview also provides a little bit of insight into how each person will behave. For example, Maleficent does have a little Pam in her (which is perfect thanks to Kristin Bauer van Straten playing the part), Ursula tends to react fairly quickly (and with magic CGI tentacles), and Cruella apparently is the fairy tale version of Poison Ivy from the Batman comics, but with dogs. She has some sort of bidding to convince them to do her bidding.

The personalities of the villains are all such that we’re pretty convinced that this could be rather fun. There were parts of the “Frozen” storyline we appreciated, but for the most part, it felt like there was too much time spent on characters who were only here for a limited engagement. While the same could be said for these villains, we at least feel like there are more opportunities to be creative with them, and to possibly see them again in the future.

Also, these characters will help you to question just what is a hero, and also what is a villain.
