‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11, episode 9 video: An emotional Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo scene
You knew almost from the moment that “Grey’s Anatomy” ended this fall that the show would be sparking up the emotion when it returned, and the latest sneak peek from ABC is proof of that. If you can watch this without getting at least slightly choked-up or teary-eyed, then you are a stronger person than most.
There is nothing in here that we would consider to be particularly shocking, other than to some of you the notion of Derek actually following through on his plan to quit working at the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital in favor of a job in DC. We know that for a time, there was some sort of legitimate hope that maybe he would decide to not do this, and to stick around. Doesn’t more Patrick Dempsey on TV lead to more smiles? Maybe, but we’ve already seen what it is like when he decides to give up on this dream.
In having Derek pursue his job in Washington, the show is ultimately doing something that is different, and also ensuring that the Derek character really gets a chance to do something that part of him wants to do. With that being said, this is clearly going to challenge his relationship with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo). The idea of just him packing up his things and preparing to go away is creating an extremely emotional dynamic for both husband and wife.
Did you get a little teary-eyed watching this? We definitely felt that way, as the two character had to prepare for what is a life-altering change for them. We want to think that their marriage will survive, but there is no guarantee of that.

I think Shondra has some mental health issues, it took years to get Derek & Meredith “right”, now merdith is just weird and splitting them up, makes her pointless. The whole lesbo thing needs to die & be done already, too damn bad Mark Sloan was killed off because that is who was Callie’s match and Arizona, just needs to go away. I just read Shondra is going to create problems with Bailey and her man, she’s already had one divorce and the weird OTC thing…she needs to be strong & stable they way she started out…oh what the hell, the show is a lost cause. Cancel it already.

If Meredith were to find herself with child once again, Derek might come to his senses and realize that family is more important than his bloody new job in Washington D.C. You can always find a job, but to lose your family is another matter. Come on writers, especially the one from the first season, get it together and make it happen. They are such a sweet family. Lets keep this show going for Season 11 and 12 and be kind to each other. Meredith honey, you have to give as well.
