‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Blake Shelton performs ‘Neon Light,’ ‘Boys ‘Round Here’

SNL -Basically, this weekend’s new episode of “Saturday Night Live” is for the most part a platform for Blake Shelton to perform and be himself. He’s not much of a sketch performer, and while he’s done a decent job as host, they are also not asking a whole lot of him when it comes to some of the live bits.

Where Blake obviously shines is as a musical guest, and he chose to use the first performance in order to highlight “Neon Light,” his latest single from what feels like his millionth album. The man is a recording beast! He also produces hit after hit like very few others in the industry. If you love Blake, then we figure that you probably loved this performance. It is right down his alley, and it fits perfect in the country market. We are not even remotely shocked that the song is a hit.

As for whether or not it will win over any non-country fans, that probably just depends on if you like Blake as an entertainer.

The second song is actually one that’s been out there as a single for a good while in “Boys ‘Round Here.” We imagine that the reason Blake performed it is that the show is mostly an upbeat affair, and it’s a song that many mainstream fans out there have at least heard of. Since his goal is to appeal to as big of an audience as possible, we’re not surprised. The song’s full of country cliches, but it’s also got a little bit of silliness to it.
