‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Captain Phillips’ star snags guest role

Hawaii Five-0 -Remember Barkhad Abdi? It was at this point last year that he was basking in some of the awards-season glow, thanks in part to the success of the Tom Hanks movie “Captain Phillips” and so many of the accolades it was receiving all around the world.

Now, we are starting to find out a thing or two more about what is next for the actor, and it includes a role over on “Hawaii Five-0.” According to a new report coming in from Entertainment Weekly, Abdi is going to guest-star on the show as Roko Contee, a warlord from the Congo who supposedly was killed many years ago. However, as it turns out, the man was not only still alive, but hiding out in Hawaii as a cab driver of all things.

Speaking about this casting to the website, executive producer Peter Lenkov teased the following about the role:

“He plays basically Kony, that African warlord who was in the news a few years ago … He plays a character like that hiding on the island here, and somebody discovers that he’s here. And our guys end up confronting him. It’s a big, big episode. We were so lucky to get him, and we wrote it with him in mind. We were able to get him to the island and that was a big coup for us.”

This casting should be fun, and a nice get for the show given that many still remember Abdi and his own unusual story to fame fondly. Hopefully, this is a launching pad for more great things from him.
