‘The Amazing Race 26’ preview: What to expect; also, premiere date

Tonight marked the end for the 25th season of “The Amazing Race,” but just as is the case for every other season of the show far, the end is hardly here for the franchise … yet.

Are we worried about the show’s future beyond the spring? Definitely. The ratings are down considerably since the move to Friday night, which shows mostly that this is a show that really has a young, active audience that likes to go out and do other things. This is probably why this new season is premiering on Wednesday, February 25; it allows for an opportunity for it to air after “Survivor: Worlds Apart,” and then promptly move over to Friday nights once again.

As for the cast, there are some teasers out there about them, but we don’t typically like to spoil any of that unless there is someone extremely notable to report on, like the star of another CBS reality show or someone who has enormous headlines. It’s not like this show films privately; it takes place all over the world, and in many places that are densely populated.

As for when this cast should be confirmed officially by CBS, the answer that we’ll give you for now is late January. This tends to be the time period the network goes for, that way it gives everyone a little bit of time to familiarize themselves with the names and faces before the race begins on TV.
