NBC’s ‘The Voice’ winner Craig Wayne Boyd reacts to big victory

Craig -In some ways, the finale of “The Voice” ended up being a surprise on Tuesday night. While we thought that Craig Wayne Boyd was probably going to finish at least third, the iTunes data did not suggest that he was in the driver’s seat.

Luckily for him, he seemed to get enough support from other voting venues that he was able to slowly rise up to the top, and then snag victory for himself and Blake Shelton over Adam Levine and his three acts: Damien, Matt McAndrew, and Chris Jamison.

Craig took part in a press conference after the show Tuesday night, and said that ultimately, this experience could not have come at a better time for him given all of the struggled he had moving into the season:

“I remember a little more than a year ago, sitting in a pick-up outside of a club after I had played to basically played to no one and talking with my drummer and saying, ‘Listen, I may have to quit because it’s not paying my bills. I’m losing my house … I didn’t know what I was going to[do].”

Eventually, Craig had a chance to audition for the show, and felt like the timing was right for him to get this a shot. It looked at times during the middle rounds like he could be in trouble, bouncing between one team and the next, but he eventually found a place on Team Blake where he could embrace both the country and southern-rock sides of his personality.
