ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7, episode 6 video: Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion, and a surprise reveal

While you may be waiting for more than a week from now to see the next new episode of “Castle” season 7, you don’t have to wait at all to find out one thing about the story within “Time of Our Lives”: Had Beckett never known Richard Castle, she would actually be more successful in her career.

The scene below (with a spoiler warning) plays out as follows. Castle enters the precinct, and claims that Beckett is not in danger. Ryan and Esposito act extremely confused about all of this, and when Stana Katic’s character enters, they refer to her as “Captain.”

What does this mean? Clearly, that something happened in the timeline that caused Captain Gates to never arrive on the scene. Maybe Captain Montgomery still died, but it is hard to know many more details beyond that based on such a tiny sneak peek.

While it is truly great for this version of Beckett that she has found a way to become so successful, there is something that you do have to remember here in the process: Just because you are making good money doesn’t mean that you are happy with her life. Maybe Kate’s promotion here is a concession to her loneliness, or her lack of a life outside of the job. Without Rick, maybe Senator Bracken would still be out there, and she will still be haunted by the murder of her mom.

There are so many questions when you get into time travel, and that is what makes this “what if?” episode fun. Also, this is the closest thing that Nathan Fillion’s had to science fiction since being a part of this show, and we’re even throwing in that episode “The Final Frontier” for good measure.
