‘Survivor: San Juan del Sur’ preview: Jeff Probst lays down the hammer

The latest -It is very rare when an episode of “Survivor” is as much about Jeff Probst as it is anyone else, but that is the position we’re in going into Wednesday’s episode. He is the main showrunner at this point in addition to the host, so therefore he had the decision about how to punish tribes who do unusual things.

For Hunahpu this season, that issue is not having enough rice. They’ve begged Jeff for more, but he has promised that if they want it, a stiff penalty will be handed down. That is previewed further in the sneak peek below from the episode, and it looks like some of the players are none too pleased about what decision is made when the dust settles.

The problem for Jeff is that there is not really an ironclad way to handle this. You can burn their shelter, but then some may say that this is to easy. Meanwhile, you can demand that the tribe goes to tribal council, but then hypothetically you have a situation where people could start chowing down in future seasons as their way of throwing a challenge. Ultimately, there is no way of handling this that everyone will like. You can say that they are stuck without any, but then you have a whole leap of liabilities if these people cannot catch any food for themselves. The water out in Nicaragua is rough, and it doesn’t look like there are a whole lot of plants out there.

What do you think should be the penalty: Losing their shelter, or being forced to go to Tribal Council?
