‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11, episode 5 reaction: Sara Ramirez on Callie – Arizona shocker

What's next? -If you love “Grey’s Anatomy,” then we would certainly understand if you are feeling a little shocked right now in the wake of what happened on ABC tonight. This was a big episode, especially if we are talking right now about the Callie and Arizona relationship.

While we thought that there was a slight possibility the two could split up before the hour came to a close, we didn’t think it would happen in the way that it did. Basically, Callie opted to be the one to end the relationship, while Arizona was ready to keep it going. In the end, the former decided that she was enjoying her life so much more without having to care for someone other than herself for a change.

Speaking about this big decision to The Hollywood Reporter after the episode aired, Sara Ramirez got in-depth on the subject, and explained what was really going through her head as the process of this “trial separation” went from start to finish:

“Initially, Callie is very resistant to therapy; I don’t think she knows what to expect and she’s terrified of losing her wife. When they do go, Callie is also resistant to the idea of an in-home separation. She’s pretty much resistant the whole time, while at the same time having a glimpse into her professional life at work without the drama of trying to fix her relationship. As the therapy sessions move go on, Callie starts to see that her life outside of the relationship is so full and that the drama is trying to fix what’s wrong with this relationship. Unbeknownst to her, Callie ends up realizing that when she’s not trying to fix this relationship, she’s finding herself more connected to who she is.”
