‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 spoilers: Shonda Rhimes and a Meredith / Derek surprise

Could the marriage between Meredith and Derek on “Grey’s Anatomy” be in trouble, after all? the more we hear on this beloved TV couple, the more confusing the picture ultimately becomes.

Previously, the reports were mostly that while the two are going to be going through some hard times moving forward, there was still not going to be anything to worry about when it comes to the stability of their marriage long-term. However, that may not entirely be the case now. Speaking to TVLine, just see what Rhimes has to say:

“I’m not going to say that Meredith and Derek are never going to break up … I’m not going to say that simply because we’re writing a story and we’re on this long, long journey. I’ve learned never to say absolutes about anything anymore. People always say, ‘Seven seasons ago you said… ‘ Well, I didn’t think we’d still be here.”

What Shonda did say here is that she is very interested in telling the story of Meredith and Derek trying to actually work through their problems as a couple, and that is more what she is committed to. What she is saying in the quote above is mostly to cover tracks in the event something changes down the line, almost in a never-say-never sort of situation. She doesn’t plan on it happening, but it still could.

“Grey’s Anatomy” season 11 will premiere on ABC come Thursday, September 25, and we are going to have some additional updates on the show well before then to keep a lookout for. There will also still be plenty of other couples in conflict.
